Description
The rather grandly named company owned the smallish Orozco mill in the Pinar del Rio province, Cuba from 1918. The mill was previously owned by the Compañía Azucarera Central Orozco. One year earlier it was also listed as owning the small Bramales mill also in the same province which however was just shutting down. By 1938 the mill was owned by the Compañia Central Orozco.
The Orozco mill established in 1813 was one of the oldest on Cuba still operating at the time.
This certificate by the American Bank Note Co. seems to be a hybrid between typical US and Cuban certificates and is one of the few Spanish-only certificates made by ABN in the context. Vignette of an allegorical lady symbolizing tropical abundance (and with a parrot on her hand). The certificate is apparently not an actual share certificate but a recognition of shares held by the identified owner. Share capital at the time of issue was 1 mln US-$.
Punchholes, stamped “Specimen” and “Last Specimen. Return to Broad Street Files”, 00000-numbered. Probably printed 1916.
