Description

The West Indies Sugar Corporation was set up in 1932 as part of the reorganization of the Cuban Dominican Sugar Corporation - a major undertaking with a number of mills in Cuba (3 directly and another 4 through the Sugar Esates of Oriente) and the largest operator in the Dominican Republic. In the reorganization the prior bondholders of the Cuban Dominican and its subsidiaries ended up as stockholders of the West Indies Sugar Corporation whereas the holders of common and preferred stock were left with virtually nothing. The company assets in Cuba were nationalized after the revolution and the company was voluntarily liquidated.

Certificate for less than 100 shares of Common Stock. Fairly typical design with a vignette depicting two ladies with sugar cane and an American eagle between them. Punchholes.
